Amazon launches low-cost ecommerce service in US to challenge Temu. October retail hiring hit a low not seen since before the pandemic. Despite record seasonal hiring announcements, actual retail and transportation job additions in October were the lowest since before the pandemic, with retailers adding 124,700 jobs and transportation and warehousing adding 61,300, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Annual inflation rate hit 2.6% in October, meeting expectations. In October, the consumer price index rose 0.2%, bringing the annual inflation rate to 2.6%. Core CPI increased 0.3% monthly, reaching 3.3% year-over-year, with shelter prices as a major contributor. Inflation-adjusted hourly earnings rose 0.1% for the month and 1.4% annually. [CNBC]
